Hello Patrick,
How do you think you will feel after you T-bone a large station wagon at 50
MPH in your Interceptor?  Or better yet ask Ralph Nader why he stated that
all cars should be built like a Rover P6 in 1967. The TC 2000 could out stop
any car of similar design and cost and the 3500S was not far behind. Rover
is the only car manufacturer that advertised the cars speed from 60 to 0 and
not the other way. In those days they cared more for the driver than bottom
line. Even the dash and control knobs were designed to keep the driver's
eyes on the road. I wonder what the Rover engineers would think about
putting a GPS TV on the upper dash.  I do agree in that the car is
complicated and the suspension is way out there in its design but that is
what makes it to me more a marvel then a mistake. Try to take a hard turn on
a washboard road and let me know where your rear end lands.  I agree with
the Borg Warner being a disappointment but it may have been their only
choice in that the ZF had yet to come on the market. I hope to have mine
running soon with the ZF 4HP22 and will let you know how it does. As for
power the Carter 4 BBL makes a lot of difference and improves the gas
mileage. Years ago folks told me that the Carter 4 BBL on my 3500S was not
original and I was quick to inform them that it was more original than the
twin SU's. We had a Olds F85 when I was young and it was fast with a 2 BBL
but the handling was terrible so I have a good gage to go by when I say that
the 3500S and TC 2000 were very well designed cars for their time and are
still far safer that most cars today. Also keep in mind that Rover was the
last British car company to go which says a lot. Even the SD1, as cheap as
it seemed, was far out in front of the curve in the construction than any
other car company and once again Rover set the bar height for others to
follow. I think the most interesting thing for me is the history of all the
inventive things that Rover came up with starting with the bicycle. I feel
sure that they invented the VW since Porsche drove a Scarab (a beetle) in
1931 and also had seen the opposed 2 cylinder air cooled engine that Rover
had in its earlier cars. Doesn't take much to figure that one out. I am glad
to say that I still suffer from the lifelong addiction to Rovers. To me it
is the challenges that make living worthwhile.

I hate to tell you  but this car is priced properly ,any P6B is not worth
more. A  NADA P6B cured me of a life long addiction to Rovers. These cars
were hopelessly, stupidly,  over engineered  . The engine bay was supposedly
designed for a gas turbine !! resulting in a complex front suspension , the
rear end De dion was a heavy  rust prone joke [ Triumph built a proper IRS ]
The V8 was gutless even after removing the AED and smog stuff , the brakes
were a pig to overhaul , the rear brakes made an E type Jaguar's
accessibility  look good , Rover were too cheap to either find a decent 5
speed ,manual or a modern auto box , instead they persisted with that
dreadful Borg Warner box. . Build quality was atrocious , the interior used
plastic seats and wood trim  instead of leather and tree wood  etc . The
contemporary Triumph 6 cylinder sedan was a better car The P6B was a gas
guzzling disappointment .
I was happy to swap it for another British car with a V8, excellent
automatic transmission and A/C a Jensen interceptor  which uses similar
amounts of fuel but is a lot more fun Cheers Patrick

PPS...!  My car is 433000340A, this one is 1552A, and James Taylor's book
shows that 2043 Federal 3500S were produced. I assume these went to both USA
and Canada.
It is sad that our beloved Rovers do not command higher prices...
