The 3 litre MkII/III shift lever is similar to the P6 shifter in that the
lever pivots in the same spherical seat and the lever has a similar nylon
(or delrin, or??) pivot ball at the bottom. One or both of these has
probably crumbled. The spherical seat can be replaced with a new one. I
think the ball at the bottom of the lever is part of the lever assembly, so
this would have to be restored in some way, such as welding or brazing
material onto the lever, then machining it down. I think others may have
machined a brass ball with a hole in it, then turned down the end of the
lever to fit into the ball.
