[Rovernet] Rare bits wanted

The story I have, that I have seen recounted on sites from both sides of the Atlantic, is that when the TC came out in late '65, Rover wanted to offer a sporty wheel option for the US cars, but Rostyle did not have a wheel with the 5 on 5 pattern, so they made a deal with Magnum in the US to use their wheels. The pattern closest to 5 on 5 was the GM 5 on 4.75, so when a US TC was ordered with Magnums, the front and rear hubs were machined just for each car. This changed sometime during 1967 when 5 on 5 Rostyles came on line, it appears no one knows exactly when. Your '67 will have 5 on 5 hubs. I have read posts on the Classic Rover Forum from a gentleman in CA who hads an early TC with the Magnums. He also has a set of Magstars, and has stated that he has to swap the hubs to make the wheel change, and he was going to have to make a decision about which to use permanently because he was tired of doing so much work. That is what makes these hubs so
damn hard to find, they were on less that a years' worth of cars, and only cars ordered with Magnums. There is a thread on the Rover site comparing pictures of Magnums and Rostyles in Rover's own sales brochures, and you can see the gap between the wheelnut and center is different. At least one of the Magnum fitted cars was re-imported to the UK, the chap who brought it in attested to the difference. He said his finger didn't fit inside the nut on the Magnum, it did easily with the Rostyle. If you're curious I can look up and cite the web addresses to the pages discussing this issue.

Ah... Scott... they're all the same hubs. On my '67 2000TC, that came with Magstar wheels, I've run Rostyles and SD1 wheels. Having owned this car, and several others, for just short of 44 years I've never seen a different spec hub or wheel. Have another look.
