So true. A few months ago, I heard a "clang" and the car would not go. The half shaft had sheared at the spline junction. The opposite side was deformed about 1mm @  the same point. I replaced both with intact shafts from a diff with a hole in the case!

Sounds really interesting.  As I recall, the drive shafts shear at the point where the splined shaft enters the differential wheel. Would the shot peening damage the splines on the shaft?
