Peter: As I mentioned earlier, you first need to narrow this down. All
problems like this come down to fuel, air, or fire (spark), and air
seems unlikely.
Checking for spark when it dies is the quickest and easiest thing to
start with. Then, if you have no spark, start working through the
ignition system. If you DO have spark, then start working your way
through the fueling system.

PS: Vapor lock while running (as opposed to after being parked for a
while) seems highly unlikely. If you hear hooves, look for horses, not
zebras.
PPS: More likely would be a sticking needle valve in the fuel bowl (or
Grose Jet if so equipped).
