Hello Pat,

Well if I had been doing my job a little better our Chairman Mike Maher would not have beaten me to the punch inviting you to join the Rover Sports Register. As North American Rep.
www.thersr.co.uk<http://www.thersr.co.uk>

I should also tell you about the Rover Car Club of Canada (RCCC) if you don't already know about the club it is local to you and also has a number of great resources and friendly members for you. In fact the Rovernet is sponsored by them.
www.roverclub.ca<http://www.roverclub.ca>

As a P3 owner and restorer I can tell you I would not have been able to restore my P3 without the assistance of both these great clubs

So here are the steps I suggest:

1) The club has a very active online membership both on their forum and Facebook. I suggest first getting to know the club on the forum. http://www.rover-forum.thersr.co.uk/

2) introduce yourself on the forum. Note There is section specifically for the P3 and just browsing subjects of the past will enlighten you. But post your questions as well as pictures and you will be surprised at the enthusiastic response you will get. The running board and P3 groups on Facebook are also great places however the forum structure is best for organizing subjects and keeping them up to date through members comments.

3) Make a general list of things to do on the car and start with the running gear. Don't worry about chrome and interior yet.

4) Buy lots of freezer rated zip lock backs and sharpies

5) Only take apart what you can accomplish putting back together in a weekend and take digital pictures of everything.

6) Join the RSR and buy the P3 workshop manual and Parts book. You cannot live without it!!! Join the RCCC

7) Visit www roveramerica (dot) com and take a look at my P3 note my contact info and my ph number and call anytime for advice on anything Rover related. You can email me at www vytek (dot)com

8) You can check with me on odd parts however the best two parts sources are Mike Couldry at Meteor Spares
http://www.thersr.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/meteorspares_7_15.jpg

And Mike Evans at Viking Engineering
http://www.thersr.co.uk/go/19

Both Mike and Mike know more about P3s than anyone else alive and are in the Spares business as an excuse to talk Rovers everyday.

9) Come to Rove America event held in June in Fitchburg MA and enjoy 4 days of everything Rover

I would be more than happy to help you as you get on with your job of bringing the P3 back to life so please feel free to call me.

Once again I will mention that both the RSR and the RCCC are the two best resources for you and strongly suggest the membership will be the least expensive and best invest that can be made in your restoration project.

Happy Rovering and Happy Holidays
Dirk Burrowes

Hi All,

When I had my 3500S engine rebuilt we used an SD1 block which allowed us to eliminate the rope seals.

My rear main seal is leaking. I would appreciate some information as to where I can purchase one, along with any part number.

Thanks, Lance

Subject:[Rovernet] Newbie to list - need help (lots of it)

Hi all, I am a newbie to this list. Long story short, a friend of
mine
bought a Rover P3 6 light (?) I think it is, it has the 6 cyl motor.
It was
75% restored when he got it, and it sat for four years with no
progress. As
I love restoring old English sports cars as a hobby (still have my
TVR,
Morgan, MGTC and Super 7) he asked me if I would get it on the road
for him,
being the winter "why not" was my thought.

I was hoping I could conect up with a few guys who have done this,
and would
be able to help me when needed, perhaps via regular email as to
bombing the
list with questions, of which I have many (thoughts?).

Is this list very active?

The other thing I am after is if anyone knows of any P3 restoration
web
sites out there of what others have done I could use as referance.

I have so many box's of parts I don't know where to start!

Thanks, Pat

Hi Lance,

Are you looking for a rope seal or an SD1 rear crank seal?

Pat,

Why not Join the Rover Sports Register Forum at
http://www.rover-forum.thersr.co.uk/ ? The Rover Sports Register, in the UK,
have published an illustrated workshop manual for the P3 and republished the
official parts list.

You should also consider joining that club -http://www.thersr.co.uk

Hope that this helps

Regards and Best Wishes for the Holidays to all Rovernetters

Mike Maher (Chairman, Rover Sports Register)

The SD1 rear crank seal (when I rebuilt my engine I replaced the block with a SD1 block to do away with the rope seal).
