[Rovernet] 3500S exhaust?

Geoff and Gross,
I sense some confusion here. The "big bore exhaust" on UK spec 3500S
models (with four speed transmission), refers only to the exhaust
manifolds used on those engines. The exhaust pipes are of the same
diameter as those used on automatics, but are of a different
configuration. The tailpipes and boxes are the same. The "big bore
manifolds" differ from the automatic manifolds in two respects, both of
which are advantageous. They 1) are smooth on the outside with no
provision for heated intake "stoves" and (2) have a larger internal
cross section just above the outlet flange (though the actual outlet
diameter is the same). The smooth exterior and added inside diameter
just above the outlet flange help to avoid cracking. The casting also
appears to be thicker. Automatic transmission exhaust pipes will mate
to these stick shift manifolds without modification. The performance
advantage of these manifolds is minimal but they are much more durable.
I have had two sets but no longer have either. I do not believe that
larger diameter pipes were a factory fitment.
