Pierre, would you know if a set of the large bore manifolds are available?

Dear Kent,

I am afraid that your information about the exhaust systems on the P6B is
incorrect. All 3500S manuals, manufactured from late 1971, have large bore
exhaust systems. This means larger exhaust manifolds (headers) and larger
bore pipes all the way through. The narrow bore pipes do not mate up with
these manifolds properly, but you might get a seal with a bit of luck and
some sealing compound. All V8 models (manual and auto) from late 1973 to the
end of production had wide bore systems, but the autos retained the narrow
bore manifolds and the downpipes expanded a little under the fitting
flanges.

Geoff and Gross,
I sense some confusion here. The "big bore exhaust" on UK spec 3500S models
(with four speed transmission), refers only to the exhaust manifolds used on
those engines. The exhaust pipes are of the same diameter as those used on
automatics, but are of a different configuration. The tailpipes and boxes
are the same. The "big bore manifolds" differ from the automatic manifolds
in two respects, both of which are advantageous. They 1) are smooth on the
outside with no provision for heated intake "stoves" and (2) have a larger
internal cross section just above the outlet flange (though the actual
outlet diameter is the same). The smooth exterior and added inside diameter
just above the outlet flange help to avoid cracking. The casting also
appears to be thicker. Automatic transmission exhaust pipes will mate to
these stick shift manifolds without modification. The performance advantage
of these manifolds is minimal but they are much more durable.
I have had two sets but no longer have either. I do not believe that larger
diameter pipes were a factory fitment.
