No need to take the engine out.  You do need to be able to get the front of the car up fairly high, but essentially you unbolt enough stuff that the engine can be tilted back on it’s mounts, then the gearbox can be withdrawn from below the car.

I have a list of all the steps I wrote sometime ago somewhere, and if I can’t find it it’s easy enough to rewrite.
