I remember reading that the reason P5s rust around the windscreen was 
that the area was filled with some sound absorbing material.

I looked at one P5 that looked solid but when lifted at the jacking 
points immediately deformed. Jack went up. Most of the car stayed where 
it was. I've wondered a few times whether this was one reason the P6 
sills were so readily accessible.
