Yes the diff from 2000 and 3500 are physically interchangeable.  And the ratios are different? 2000 is 3.48 manual and automatic and the 3500 is 3.08.  I?ve been running a 3500 diff in my 2000TC since the early 80s? even pulled trailers and other Rovers.  Yes, first gear is ?slow? but it does work quite well.  Brakes and half shafts fit either unit. 

 

If you have early 2000 then you have Dunlop brakes. To go to a 3500 diff you would have to get Girling calipers. I think the 2000 ratio is 3.58_______________________________________________
