Success. Was able to get a new, in the box, ignition lock assembly for this particular model from a Rovernet listmember. Thanks so much to all for the help and advice. New part is in and working fine. Came with 3 keys....

Onward and upward.

Bob

For the key dilemma, on the FBRoverP6 group, Zach Holden in Manchester UK makes spare keys.

Hi Bob,

I have been half following your steering lock woes, but I"m not sure whether it has been resolved.

I have a new steering lock for a NADA 3500S. The part number on the box is 578454 and its date of manufacture is 18/2/71.

Let me know if this is the same lock as used on the 1971 2000TC

Is the Burlington VT mechanic that you use The Automaster?

Hi Peter,
This is the type of ignition and steering lock that Bob is looking for (as far as I understand); he has one of the 200 or so Federal Series 2 2000TC's:

A few very late Federal Series 1 P6's also had this ignition I think.

Hi Vern,

I didn't try to post to Rovernet, thinking they would not go through.

Here are the photos.
