[Rovernet] Brake Caliper issue

Hello all

A way to check the operation of the pushrod and its actuating ratchet is
to disconnect the handbrake connection from this caliper and operate
this lever through its complete movement with a suitable spanner. You
should be able to hear a clicking sound as the ratchet slides back over
the teeth of the push rod. Repeated cycles of this movement will push
the brake pads fully onto the disk. You will then be able to bleed the
left caliper reliably. With that done the handbrake should work
correctly. If there is no sound or the pads do not progress then there
is a fault in the reassembly or either the ratchet or push rod are worn.
Hope this helps
Cheers Roger

I think you are referring to the shop called White Post.  Right?

I would have thought that any competent re-builder of a caliper would
have noticed any worn cog wheel (or pushrod as it is correctly called in
Rover nomenclature) and replaced it.

This may show that White Plain are not competent.

Dermot Harvey is expert in the rear brakes, He found the error in the
one I rebuilt: worn cog wheel.

What do you mean when you say it doesn’t engage?

I had my left rear Caliper rebuilt three times by White Pine in
Virginia. It still does not engage. Any suggestions? I am also seeing a
replacement caliper that hopefully does not require rebuilding
