[Rovernet] 2000TC Flywheel - Clutch burned out

According to others on this list, the beveled gearing was for the older version of the starter. The later version, pre-engaged, did not need bevelled teeth. Relying upon that, I am seeking a flywheel which has the teeth facing the engine.

Again,in this case can any flywheel be used with a pre engaged starter? What I am trying to say is that can a inertia type flywheel be used with a pre engaged starter? Larry

I must back out of this conversation. My three are for inertia type starters.sorry. brain fog today. Larry

Then, Larry, I'll take the best one you have if the ring gear faces the engine. According to Pierre I don't need to have bevel teeth after all

.927” is the minimum thickness. New thickness .952”

I have 3 hanging the wall. I am not a mechanic ,but they all look good. Does anyone know the minimum thickness? Larry

As always, thank you very much. My mechanic here in the Us, who's worked on British cars all his life, says that the ring gears on MGg's and Triumphs etc were always beveled regardless of the starter. I take it that this is something unique to Rovers?
Regardless, any chance you have a flywheel that faces the engine even if ring gear isn't beveled?

Dear Robert,
I think that you are getting too hung up on the question of bevelling of the teeth. A 1971 car will have a pre-engaged starter motor which means that it does not start turning until the gear has moved so as to engage with the teeth on the ring gear. This means that there is no need for bevelling on the teeth on the ring gear and flywheels and their associated ring gear do not have any bevelling. The bevelling is only needed with an inertia starter where the gear on the starter motor flies into the ring gear after it has already started to turn, and the bevelling is needed to cushion the blow.

Okay. Anybody have a used flywheel for a 71 Federal series 2 2000 TC? Mechanic says the teeth have to be beveled and they have to face the engine.

Hi All:
Clutch on 71 Series II Federal 2000TC P6 is burned up. Mechanic says that the clearance on the pressure plate is too big, but is not sure which part is responsible.
Problem might also be that the flywheel was turned too much during an earlier repair. Can source a new one at Win’s, but we need one where the beveled teeth on the ring gear are facing the engine. Win’s is facing the other way.
Anyone have the right flywheel or any advice?
Bob
