Thanks Steve. I remember the de Lorean saga; highly subsidized by the UK government. Not a P6, but in a small but interesting transport museum east of Belfast is a cut-in-half…SD-1! A short drive or train ride.

Speaking as an Englishman it’s terrible how we treated the Irish.
I will say though, growing up in Woolwich and seeing the effects of pub bombings
Made me pretty angry too. It was/is a brutal part of
Both nations life. The DeLorean factory did more to heal the situation
than any other activity. The one rule there: no talking about religion or politics.
Just having a well paying job and working alongside each other other did so much. I wish
more of it had happened, it would’ve saved so much bloodshed.
The book is well worth a read. https://www.amazon.com/DeLorean-Story-car-people-scandal/dp/0857333143

Hi Geoff,
Interesting story.
I am for an anglo irish family. An ancestor, one Bagenal Harvey was involved in the taking of Wexford from the British in 1798.

Not unusual, savage story of the IRA campaign for total control of the 6 counties in the northeast that still remain British.
An Poblacht means the Republic in Irish. Reading it gives a sense of the fervor, often murderous, of the independence movement. To this day, the Irish call it the Revolution, which finally achieved a nation after conquest of Eire in the 13-1400s.
My 4 grandparents were all Irish and immigrated here in the 1890s. I was raised to hate the “Brits” because they “dragged my father’s cousin to death behind a van”. IRA cousin, it seemed.
However, when we visited the charming village of Dingle, where a monument to “Bobby Mac” exists even today, the story was a bit different: Bobby Mac was on the wrong side of the short, fortunately not too nasty, Civil war, and came down from the hills to “visit his mother, or go to Mass”. And was shot by Irish. The civil war was fought after the truce, and pitted those who wanted complete independence, vs those who would still swear allegiance to the King, and become effectively a Commonwealth country. We know who won.
Ironically, in our many visits to Eire, distaste for Brits is little more than a joke. Only once did we encounter real antipathy, and that family’s kids were…in school in UK! The 2 nations have almost no borders, Irish can still vote in local elections in UK< etc.
The Palestinian Israeli tragedy could learn from the Irish. After independence there was a Land Commission to fairly distribute the lordly estates. Many British owners left, many stayed, with less land. The same process took place in South Africa after apartheid ended.
Ireland was a poor, agricultural nation when we first visited in the 60s . The Irish were always highly educated, literate, witty, social. It was EU money that transformed the nation into the prosperous, dynamic republic.

Was in Washington DC last weekend and visited the fabulous Spy Musuem, just off the National Mall (if you haven't been, it is a MUST).
As we were working our way through, I was caught off guard by a photo and story of an undercover soldier working for the British government who was killed by the IRA.
Pretty as you please, Telford Stuart, was leaning against a Series 1 P6
Here ya go! (this is a very detailed article which was not part of the museum's display).
