I've been restoring this car since 1988. Although electrics are my worst skill set, this latest event has me completely flummoxed.
Drove the car several miles two days ago without any problems. Washed it yesterday, as I have done for 30+ years without an incident. Drove it back into the garage, unscrewed the battery post disconnect switch, and plugged in the battery tender (which I've also used for 30+ years).
Be aware there was no corrosion on either post or on the positive and negative leads from the battery to the car.
Realized I needed to move the car up further into the garage. Screwed the disconnect switch back on and nothing.
Battery at rest registered 12.9-13V; clearly well maintained. Checked under the hood; leads to and from the coil, etc. All in order. Finally checked the fuse box, and the 35amp battery control fuse had blown. O.k., an old Lucas fuse, let's replace it, after having disconnected the battery. Installed new 35 amp fuse, turned disconnect switch back on and nothing.
Went back to the fuse box. The fuse was blown again. Reached in to pull it and it was so hot I now have a loverly, blister on my thumb.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Lance
