Thanks, Vern, for-reposting.
I've gotten the old pistons out and replaced them with new, but getting the seals to stay in the housing groove while re-inserting the piston has been a repetitive chore, since each time the seal pops out I have to blow out the piston all over again. I've scraped the grooves so that they look clean, but each time I insert the piston, the seal comes loose from the groove. Grrr... maddening. Life has since intervened, but I'll be addressing those darned seals next week. - Jim

In response, the old pistons were pitted, so these are new pistons I am attempting to install. As you might be able to tell from the second photo, the end of the new piston that goes into the housing is, in fact, rounded, but it is not exactly the same as the old one. All the dimensions look identical. Also, while the old piston was flat, the new piston is indented. I'm not sure why the change. Was that a technical improvement, or was it simple to save money for the manufacturer? Obviously, it would require more fluid to stay in the housing. All of that being said, do I simply find a way to evenly force the piston into the housing, despite the advice from the manual?
