Several weeks ago I put out an SOS about my bumping, swaying, and grinding differential (sounds just like a burlesque show!). I wanted to thank everyone once again for all their input/words as wisdom. I thought imparting my newfound wisdom on this project
might be helpful for anyone facing a similar situation.</div>

After checking all of the half-shaft u-joints (installed less than 500 miles ago), and then dropping that dastardly pumpkin out of the rear end without killing myself, I proceed to split the casings in hopes of finding the culprit. The only good news was
that the crown gear and all other internals were in perfect shape. Propeller shaft u-joints; check. Rear wheel bearings; check. Vegemite in both glove boxes; check.</div>

After much gnashing of teeth, I brought in another, far more sagacious, set of eyes. What he discovered was I had installed the driver's side u-joint for the end of the half-shaft which bolts to the brake disc, BACKWARDS!!!! I was gobsmacked to realize
one could even install a u-joint backwards. As it turns out, the correct Spicer u-joints for the half-shafts (5-178-x) have zerks, and for the Rover application those zerks have to face AWAY from the discs, because the clearance of the 'ears' on the half
shaft is greater that the clearance of the ears on the plate which bolts to the disc. Placing the zerk towards the disc results in the binding of the zerk with rotation of the wheel/half-shaft!!!! </div>
