Very early cars didn’t have the slot, they had to be machined off.<o:p></o:p></p><div><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal>Though Rover wanted you to replace the collar, you can reuse them as long as they haven’t been damaged during removal. And take a very, very close look at the stub axles themselves. They develop cracks in the spline area, right were you see the wear marks stop and then eventually shear.<o:p></o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal>Both the seal & bearing can be sourced locally, collars are an England item though there are drawings available to have one machined up. The original ones were pressed on. These collars need to be removed to replace the differential seals. I’m not sure how available the collars are, but new ones can be made and pressed on. The seals I am sure are available. You might as well replace the seal at the aluminum end of the differential as well. You will likely need a machine shop to pull the flange off. They need to be careful.
