Later flywheels were double machined (bevelled both sides) so were universal. Winns must have some old stock early flywheels. Ring gears on their own do come up, I'm sure there was one on Ebay UK recently though if the flywheel is toast I guess that won't help. Early clutches had a centre thrust ring, later ones didn't, there is a Rover Service Newsletter detailing how to machine the gearbox release housing to fit a later clutch to an early box and I wonder if that may be the source of your issue. I think if you fit an early clutch to a later box you very quickly run out of "thrust" room, so presumable done vice versa the opposite would occur. All this from distant memory so take with a small pinch of salt but amongst my ramblings may lie the answer.
