[Rovernet] Rare bits wanted

Hi Lou

Your car undoubtedly didn’t come with Rostyles originally. They quite possibly were installed by a dealer after the Rostyles became available, or perhaps just later on in the car’s life. Are you certain they aren’t actually Magnums? Have you tried putting a steel wheel on?

The September 1966 service newsletter is the first mention of Magnum wheels, warning that tires chains cannot be fitted to NADA cars so equipped. The same month Rover issued special newsletter introducing the TC & Automatic. Magnum wheels are not mentioned, but then wheels period aren’t mentioned.

I have a late 67 North American sales brochure that lists “Mag-styled" wheels as an option, as well as the Magstar wheel. Elsewhere they refer to the wheel as Ro-style. But this is late for your car, which must be an A suffix to be Dunlop braked.

In the June 1968 newsletter, Rover lists the parts needed to convert a steel wheeled car to Rostyles, along with the note that only Girling braked cars can be converted (leading back to my wondering if you don’t have Magnum wheels)

I have some more material somewhere on the Magnum/Rostyle deal, just have to find it.

Yours
Vern
