[Rovernet] p5 rough running after warm up

Once I shut down, I can’t get it re-started until it’s cool again. It seems to be getting very hot as well. I did swap out the water pump and thermostat prior to this problem occurring. I wonder if a coolant blockage might be causing overheating and vapor lock? I’ll check the timing first to rule out a problem there, and check fuel filters again.

thanks,

Peter

A timing light would show whether the distributor advance (base plate, springs, vacuum advance) is working. A Mighty Vac or similar hand vacuum pump could be used to test the vacuum advance diaphragm. I'm not sure if a failed diaphragm would ever show up as a temperature related problem.

This could be something like crud in the fuel tank gradually collecting on the pickup tube screen, or filter, or ???, then falling back when the engine stops. Does it restart easily and run ok for awhile or still have the same problem when restarted hot?

Starts up fine. drives without hesitation. After driving for 10 or so minutes, things start to get progressively worse. First, stuttering on hard acceleration, then stuttering at any acceleration. idle is fine all the while. After about 20 minutes, I can hardly move forward without stalling. I cleaned the carburetor earlier on, hoping that might help. But the problem is still occurring after warm up.
