Hi Geff,

For what it may be worth, I had a similar problem on a Series III Land
Rover. A quick fix was to use a short piece of plastic pipe, which was
about the right OD, but of a smaller ID than the stub of the lever. I
warmed it till it was flexible, and slipped it over the end of the
lever. I think I may have "machined" it a bit after it cooled down.

I intended this as a temporary solution, but it worked quite well, and
in fact is still in there. I forget whether it was the ivory-coloured
water pipe that looks a bit like nylon, or the grey plastic electrical
conduit, but whatever it was, it has lasted for some five years. It
was pure luck that plastic pipe was available in the right size, of course!

Cheers,
