[Rovernet] P6 clutch master cylinder

Hi Lance,

I believe the R/H manual V8's used a different master because of the
proximity of a conventional unit to the exhaust manifold. As I recall it was
mounted vertically on the firewall and was operated by a lever/ push rod
contraption. On your L/H dive I assume the clutch master is on the left of
the brake master and further away from the exhaust. This being the case then
the conventional P6 manual master should work OK. Threading the actuating
rod through the pedal box to locate it in the pedal is very difficult. I
used a magnet built into a telescopic rod and a helper. I fully extended the
telescope and pushed it through from the inside to the engine bay. My helper
positioned the magnet on the end of the actuating rod and we very carefully
threaded the master into position. When the rod was through the pedal box I
could grip it with my fingers and screw it into the pedal as the helper
guided the master finally onto the studs in the engine bay. I suggest you
use a flexible hose to the slave because you can disconnect the slave from
the bell housing and bring it up into the engine bay with the bleed screw
uppermost. Make a wooden plunger and clamp to keep the piston as far into
the housing as possible. Use your helper to bleed the system by the
conventional two person method. I have found that this method works very
well and you end up with a great pedal. Ensure that you give the helper all
the credit for success and a significant reward

Cheers Roger in Oz

Subject: [Rovernet] P6 clutch master cylinder

Hi All,

Would appreciate information on resources where I can find a new clutch
master cylinder for my 3500S conversion to manual. The Kiwi who sold me the
Celica Supra 5 speed transmission/conversion kit indicated I should try to
find an "orginal Rover" master cylinder. I'm hoping that means that the
Rover clutch master cylinder would be the same if it were from a 2000, 2200
or European 3500 manual?

Thanks in advance for any help.
