Hi as a piece of general advice on all P6 and SD1 cars that can improve
their starting.

I have had a few in my time P6 & P6's and found that adding an extra
earth strap between the block and the body improves the cranking
speed. It seems that the original strap across the engine mount becomes
less effective over the years.
In the case of the SD1's the contact between the body and the Neg
terminal becomes resistive.

On the 2000's a strap from the block to the earth terminal of the
battery and on the V8 a strap between the block and body .To make sure a
good connection I sanded back on the body and covered it with grease to
stop any corrosion.
This improves both the cranking speed and charging .

As a way to confirm this would help & prove that original strap is not
functioning properly; measure the voltage between the block and the body
while cranking the motor ,any voltage will suggest that there is some
resistance so strap will help.
