What no-one appears to have mentioned so far is that the spacers can also be used to vary the incline of the base of the seat (by using the spacers only at the front or rear).

Thinking about current mechanics and technology relative to raising or lowering front seats, these screws and spacers used to raise the front seats I would describe as pre-Neanderthal!!!!
