[Rovernet] 2000TC Flywheel - Clutch burned out

Bob, Inertia starters (early) throw in from the rear towards the front, pre-engage throw in from the front to the rear. Later flywheels were double machined (bevelled both sides) so were universal. Winns must have some old stock early flywheels. Ring gears on their own do come up, I'm sure there was one on Ebay UK recently though if the flywheel is toast I guess that won't help. Early clutches had a centre thrust ring, later ones didn't,  there is a Rover Service Newsletter detailing how to machine the gearbox release housing to fit a later clutch to an early box and I wonder if that may be the source of your issue. I think if you fit an early clutch to a later box you very quickly run out of "thrust" room, so presumable done vice versa the opposite would occur. All this from distant memory so take with a small pinch of salt but amongst my ramblings may lie the answer. I would get the gearbox serial number and determine type of clutch fitted as a starting point to a resolution.Alan Francis (partviking)Sent from my Galaxy

Hi All:
 
Clutch on 71 Series II Federal 2000TC P6 is burned up.   Mechanic says that
 the clearance on the pressure plate is too big, but is not sure which part is responsible.
 
Problem might also be that the flywheel was turned too much during an earlier
 repair.   Can source a new one at Win’s, but we need one where the beveled teeth on the ring gear are facing the engine.  Win’s is facing the other way.
 
Anyone have the right flywheel or any advice?
