[Rovernet] 1958 Rover P4 105S for Sale - Cars & Bids

Hi Geoff,

It's hard to put a value on a Rover in any case, especially so today
with classic car values generally lower, and also not being familiar
with this particular car, not looking at it up close, not knowing how it
runs and drives, etc.

With that disclaimer, here are some thoughts:  $5000 to $6000 seems
possible in an on-line auction situation based on some recent Rover
sales on BAT, though these are mostly P6s.  This 105S is is much rarer
than any P6, but there may not be as many people that know they want a
P4.  The rust-free or mostly rust-free chassis and body, good chrome,
good chrome and driver condition mean it should sell for more than
project car money.  You won't see another one at the local British car
show -- I only know of two other 4-speed/OD 105's, and they are in New
England.

Maybe it could be worth $10,000, but that seems unlikely unless several
people keep bidding because they want it in what amounts to a wholesale
auction.  Several things limit value:  the paint looks very presentable,
but some of the photos show orange peal, overs-spray, chips, etc.  The
interior was re-done pretty well, but it lost some of the original
detail and now needs some repairs.  Not much is known about the service
history -- a few specific brake repairs are mentioned, but it could need
a more thorough brake system rebuild.  There are no photos of the
exhaust system other than the tail pipe, which looks like the original
bigger bore size on the 105 and 110.  The tires are much too wide, so
the steering probably will be quite heavy.   Nothing suggests it needs
major restoration, but it likely needs some time and money spent on
re-commissioning and improvements.
