[Rovernet] DeDion overhaul woes

Having a bugger of a time trying to figure out how to "carefully drift" out the right side retainer and seal. The left hand side is easily prised out and replaced. There are brass sleeves, 1 3/4" long inside each end of the outer tube. When the manual indicates 'careful drifing' to remove the retainer (which is about 3/4" long with a small lip, on the exterior of the outer tube) I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be carefully tapping on the inner brass sleeve to push the seal and the retainer off the end????
Is there anyway to carefully tap around the full circumference of that small lip to get the retainer to pop off?
Why can't I just prise the seal out of this right end (as with the left end) without removing the retainer, and replace with a new seal?
If I must drift it off by drifting/tapping on the inner brass sleeve, where in the world do I find a "soft metal" drift that long?

Any help with this would be appreciated.
