On the P6 Facebook page I was told that Rover made some space for the V8 and the hood therefore was a bit longer. For the Series II they kept that configuration.

The Series I bonnet for the 2000 is basically "smooth" so to speak. The 3500S Federal had three functional hood scoops, so there would be three holes. The Series II bonnet had what you might call "power bulges" but no holes or scoops.

Very few Series II cars were sold in the USA in the last year or so that Rover 2000s were imported here.

Someone refresh my memory, but wasn't the Series II bonnet a little bit longer at the forward end, or was that just a trim issue?

Thank you for your enquiry for our parts and services. We offer the highest-quality spare parts for the vintage Land -Rover. Our staff is minuscule while the demand for rare and “unobtainable” parts for early Land-Rovers is relentless. While your concern is important to us, our ability to respond to each and every enquiry may be limited and stocks of many items are critically low.. We are primarily a restoration-based enterprise but when we have a surplus of a given item, we are able to offer excess stocks to our dedicated clients. If your need is urgent, we encourage you to contact us by phone, in person. Leaving a message is rarely effective, so we recommend direct contact. With many buildings full of parts, it is not always easy to locate obscure items, and the process is often time consuming. We hope you understand. Please provide complete details of your exact model including year, wheelbase, which side drive, engine, Country of origin, etc. When giving part numbers, please also state the catalogue number (typically found on the front cover). We appreciate your understanding and will do all we can to help.

Pierre, sorry to bomb the rest of the list but I don?t have your personal email.

You say you have a new Series II hood? Are you in the States?

You will have a problem finding a series II bonnet in N.America as that model was very rare. The V8 bonnet will fit, but it has holes for the air scoops, so you will need to fit a complete used unit. There is a new V8 bonnet in the US on Ebay, but it is just the bare panel, without the scoops etc/

You will find plenty of series II bonnets in the UK, but shipping will be very expensive. I have one new one which has a few imperfections, but you would do better to look on Ebay for a used one.

Pierre

Pierre,
One of my Rover adventures was stripping all of the Series II parts off of a rusty car in the New York City are and bringing them back to Philadelphia. Later, I drove the Series II bonnet to Syracuse, NY for Hank Manwell tied to the roof of a vehicle of some sort. Might have been the Volvo 940. That car was a 4-cylinder non-turbo wagon that I towed TWO SD1s home with. One came from Long Island, NY and the other from Richmond, Virginia. Both towed backwards with the rear wheels up. The Long Island one went over the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge which is really high and has a sort of cloverleaf approach ramp. Very steep. Felt like I was 300 feet up in the air.

Subject: [Rovernet] P6 Parts for new owner -- Federal Series II 2000TC
Hi All:

My Series II Federal 2000 TC is finally roadworthy. It has gone through the hands of several mechanics over the past few years but ultimately Arlo at Imported Car Center Auto Sport in Burlington VT has now sorted everything out. Transmission replaced; engine rebuilt; etc.

The hood had blown off while being test driven by an earlier mechanic and is no longer useable. Arlo has sourced a hood from Florida and has tried to install it but it apparently is not a Series II hood nor one for a V8. (It's temporarily kept in place with those metal rings which I don't like at all.)

Does anyone have a hood, or know of one, that will fit this car? I am told that any V8 hood will fit.
The engine ID plate says 7/71 is the build date. VIN is 43500220A.

I also need new A/C components aside from the heavy bracket. What is the modern compressor and other engine bay AC parts that will fit? Sanden?

Thank you.

Bob Ruggeri
